CCCGRS Welcome Visitors During 2018 CCRRF

Six CCCGRS member layouts were among several railroad-related events and venues featured over the four day 2018 Central Coast Railroad Festival (CCRRF). From Paso Robles to Santa Maria, CCCGRS members open and operated their large scale model train layouts for visitors not only from Monterey, San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara Counties, but also from Orange and Riverside Counties and as far as Las Vegas, NV.

CCCGRS members appreciate this annual event as the premier opportunity to share our passion for large scale model trains with the public.  CCCGRS members were very giving of their time and talents for this year’s festival. Many members that were unable to host an open house of their own, assisted other members by operating trains at their layout or interacting with guests at our club layout featured this year at the Oceano Depot.

Special recognition is extended to John Albin, Barbara Davis, Jim Davis, Mark Edwards, Michelle Edwards, Mark Goodman, Richard Harvey, Lori Hays, Mark Hays, Dave Hayes, Chuck Jordan, Will Kastner, Bernie Meister, John Phillips, Mike Sassard, Julie Wajda, and Walt Wajda for their contributions, emphasizing the role of CCCGRS as an official 2018 CCRRF participant.

A new addition to the program this year, an overview of large scale model railroads and garden railroading was presented at the San Luis Obispo Railroad Museum. This was a great opportunity to meet people interest or already involved in outdoor and large scale model railroading.

Thank you to everyone who made this event special for both the participants and guests. We look forward to hosting you as our guests during the 2019 Central Coast Railroad Festival.

This modest model train layout operating in the Oceano Depot demonstrated large scale rolling stock, structures and scenery for the 2018 Central Coast Railroad Festival (R. Harvey, image).
Fast moving, brightly colored eggliners always attract attention. These small pieces of rolling stock are a good match for the tight radius curves of the CCCGRS display layout (R. Harvey, image).

CCCGRS members were invited to operate their own trains on the group’s display layout at the Oceano Depot. CCRRF guests were treated to a range of model trains over the event (J. Albin, image)
The J&W Railroad in Santa Maria is always a public favorite. Walt and Julie Wajda have created an inviting environment for CCRRF guests to relax and watch the trains roll by (M. Edwards, image).
Vegetation along Horseshoe Curve continues to mature while in the background other scenery elements are shown in their “raw” form. The Cascade Peak & Buena Vista Railway in Santa Margarita was one of six CCCGRS large scale layouts open to the public (M. Edwards, image).
