Central Coast Students Excited by STEAM at Best of the West Antique Equipment Show

In the Summer 2019 issue of Garden Railways magazine, readers were asked “When was the last opportunity you had to share the (garden railroad) hobby with children?” Although children routinely attend and participate in most of our events, the Central California Coast Garden Railroad Society had the pleasure of sharing the Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math (STEAM) of garden railroading with students from across central California today at the 2019 Best of the West Antique Equipment Show.

School age children watch garden trains
School age children attending the 2019 Best of the West Antique Equipment Show were captivated with the CCCGRS garden railroad display (J. Albin, image).

On Friday 24-May-2019, CCCGRS began operating one of the largest displays the group has ever constructed for this family-oriented regional event. The layout clearly caught the attention of event visitors throughout the day. Special thanks goes to dedicated CCCGRS members that helped plan, construct and operate the layout, engaged the children and share their passion for the hobby with everyone that stopped by to “just watch the trains.”

People watch large scale model trains
Visitors young and young-at-heart watched large scale model trains traverse the CCCGRS layout before riding onboard one of the former Disneyland passenger coaches on the Pacific Coast Railroad (J. Albin, image).

The 2019 Best of the West Antique Equipment Show continues through Sunday, 26-May-2019. The large scale model railroad layout will operate daily throughout the event. Trains and rolling stock are routinely changed throughout the event. We look forward to seeing you at the historic Santa Margarita Ranch!
