CCCGRS Welcomes 2023 National Garden Railroad Convention Guests for Area’s First Post-Convention Tour

The Central California Coast Garden Railroad Society cordially invites convention delegates, families, and friends to extend their California railroad adventure south to San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara Counties following the 2023 National Garden Railroad Convention in Santa Clara, CA.

For the first time, Central California Coast Garden Railroad Society members will showcase their garden railroads, as an extension of this popular national event. Located mid-way between San Francisco and Los Angeles, railroads large and small have been and remain prominent features in San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara Counties.  Several railroads are in operation serving the agriculture and agritourism industry, as well as the 7.5-inch gauge Bitter Creek Western Railroad. Railroad history is evident as you travel through the landscape and is prominently displayed at the San Luis Obispo Railroad Museum, historic Oceano Depot and Santa Maria Valley Railway Historical Museum.

Of course, we encourage our guests to experience our region’s natural beauty and other prominent destinations, including Hearst Castle, Mission San Luis Obispo de Tolosa (est. 1772), Pismo Beach and the award-winning wineries that make this area the third largest producer of California wine.   Descriptions and details of our regional garden railroads and related destinations are available on our website. Venues continue to be added, so check often.

This is a perfect opportunity for those returning to Southern California, Arizona and points beyond to visit more open railroads “along the way.” Travelers may choose to take the direct, 3-hour journey through the Salinas Valley along US-101 or include in their itinerary the ultimate California road trip: a scenic drive on California Highway 1 along the rugged California coast, to our destination.

All of this and more awaits your arrival to the central coast of California. Make your travel arrangements today. We look forward to your visit! For more details email: contact@cccgrs.org.
