M&S Railroad Renovations Raise The Bar

Mark Goodman recently began construction on the newest incarnation of the Mark & Shelia Railroad (M&SRR). The roadbed for the new three track mainline, each with 2 passing sidings, will be raised 28 inches off the ground on post and pier construction. Preassembled cedar picket fence panels will strategically support some sections of the layout.

Below are the first in a series of behind the scenes images that will let you monitor the construction progress. We cannot wait to celebrate the golden spike ceremony on Mark & Shelia’s new garden line!

With previous track, ballast and other features cleared from the right-of-way, holes have been hand-dug for dual 4×4 treated lumber posts that will support the raised roadbed 28 inches above grade (M. Goodman, image).

Creative use of prefabricated cedar picket fence sections to support straight track runs accelerate the construction process (Goodman, image).
